Re-making water visible

Boston LightWells Project

The first two installations of LightWell are located in the park of the South End Public Library. This location was selected because it is at the heart of the Groundwater Conservation Overlay District, an area of Boston primarily built on fill that is especially vulnerable to a low ground water table. The historic building fabric in this area was traditionally built on wood piles that can suffer rot if the groundwater drops too low.
